New York County Va History Blog

Well, I am back. I used to have the blog, but with changing providers and all, I have some how lost access to it. It is still out there and I still go to every so often, but I can add to it.
So here is the new one.
Here is what is going on.  The York County Historical Society is still in business. We are nearly eleven years old and still meet on the first Monday of each month.  We are now more on an oral history group.
I am on the "Fact Sheets Commitee" of the York County Historical Committee. I have submitted about a half a dozen stories to them.
I am also a member of the York County Civil War Sequicentenial Committee. I will shorten that to 150th Committee.  We  have a lot of things going on and will try to keep you informed.
I am also more active in the Poquoson Historical Society,.
Well that is about it for now, there will be much more to follow.

  1. Hello Frank
I was trying to find some family history, when I came upon this blog. I have seen your name before on the other York County blog. is having a free week on Civil War searches, and I was trying to get some Green family history straight in my mind. Wondering if you could help.

My grandfather was Peter P. Green, his father was Peter Green - he is buried toward the rear of Providence Methodist. I notice that your historical society meetings are held there.

Peter Green's brother was killed at Antietam (Sharpsburg) in 1862. I believe they were both artillery men, and that Peter Green was wounded at Gettysburg in 1863. He spent the next year in a hospital in Petersburg recovering from his wounds.

Can you fill in any details? I am relying on my memory from my readings from "The Ironmongers in Virginia" (I don't remember the exact title, it was written probably in the 1960's and I haven't seen it for 20 years).

Thanks for any help you can give.

By the way, this is what a search from says:
